10 Days of the RNC and DNC: The Fun Bits with Navroop and Aasif Mandvi

Posted on 28 Sep 2012 in ArmorText, Event, Media Roundup, News, Press, Startup, Team 0 Comments

Attendance at the conventions proved to be a huge success for Gryphn. Interest was generated from established media partners, Navroop ended up on stage with Arianna Huffington and in a multitude of photos. Steve Roberson, marketing executive from StartUpHire and American Airlines’ employees recognized Navroop from his photos with President Obama. American Airlines, connections from Navroop’s presentation at Meeting of the Minds, provided introductions and connections with other execs and startups in the event. Navroop was also approached by a globally diversified investment firm who had already heard of Gryphn and they were interested in learning more. At both conventions, Navroop met Aasif Mandvi, a correspondent from the Daily show. Aasif’s producer offered Navroop a spot in a convention related segment which Navroop declined in favor of a future opportunity with the production. Stay tuned for more info…

On the Fun Side:

All work and no play makes… well, you know how the saying goes. Navroop successfully combined business and pleasure at the conventions’ after hours. He mingled with political rockstars like Senator Lee of Utah who showed interest in using ArmorText, and prominent CEO’s like Scott Case and Arianna Huffington, all while enjoying performances from well-known musicians including Common and Flo Rida.  The ladies, as always, loving Navroop’s impeccable style, pulled him into a picture that was meant to feature Stephen Baldwin yet ended featuring Navroop (see below). The women from BET showed him love as well by teaching him the Electric Slide. While listening to Salt’N’Peppa live onstage, Navroop was also discussing ArmorText with some politicians from New York. Even when Gryphn plays, we’re still working. Navroop continued making connections and pitches over the weekend at his sister’s wedding. He had the chance to meet two potential angel investors from the medical profession and demonstrate ArmorText and some of our (TOP SECRET) upcoming enhancements.

A Pleasure at both the RNC and DNC

Such conventions are dense in creativity and opportunity. We developed multiple connections with other startups, opportunities in regards to investment and were offered a plethora of ArmorText applications through customer input. We truly believe that changing America is a partnership and, if we can return the favor for any of the companies mentioned or any other connection we made at the event, don’t hesitate to ask. Startups and partnerships are #Whatisworking in energizing America.

“When we put Convenienceat odds with Compliance, Conveniencewins. Most security software makers fail to realize – Simplicity encourages Adoption, and Adoption increases Security. ArmorText’s beauty is in how simply it allows doctors, lawyers, Congress Persons, actors, and everyday people who care about their communications, to text without fear. Our users experience a simple one-touch design for security, and this experience is beautiful.”

-Navroop Mitter CEO Gryphn Corporation

After finishing up at the booth, Navroop met with Scott Case on the Expo stage. Dozens of startups were vying for Mr. Case’s attention but he spent extra time with Navroop and ArmorText, agreeing to help connect with the right folks at Microsoft to spread our product onto their platform. At the same time photographers started buzzing and Arianna Huffington began her speech introducing Startup America and the other co-sponsors of the event, leading to shots of Navroop on stage with both.

New Partnerships, New Possibilities

Demonstrating our capabilities resulted in startups, reporters, investors and others coming up with creative new applications and verticals in which ArmorText could be utilized.  Journalists also suggested ArmorText to manage foreign correspondence when communicating back to papers via text. Access to a foreign carrier’s database is sometimes available to the government and others, especially for stories critical of that specific country. Another startup, a custom video production company based around the iPad and other mobile devices, expressed a need for help with security after hearing VCs concerns that many uses of their platform may also require security considerations. Navroop offered to help out and is now in touch with this startup for direct use of Gryphn’s API in a partnership that would solve their security issues. Our current focus will remain in Healthcare, Financial and Federal verticals, but it is encouraging to see so many options, in insurance, notary, journalism and others. ArmorText’s future is bright. Thank you, in particular, to Robin Richards, currently of internships.com and tweet my jobs (Formerly of MP3.com and Tickets.com) for your suggestions.

Not only were companies and individuals interested in Gryphn’s products, we were also intrigued by KiteDesk which provided a Cloud Solution we would happily use to manage our media, e-mail and phone communications.

Still to come –

Navroop Mitter declines to be on the Daily Show, gets checked out by a globally diversified firm who had already heard of Gryphn Secure Messaging and learns the electric slide.

Navroop shows off ArmorText - the world's most secure texting app

Gryphn’s schedule has been packed and for good reason. The Huffington Post along with Startup America selected 60 + entrepreneurs to participate in a startup showcase at the RNC and DNC in Tampa and Charlotte respectively. (The above picture was featured by the Huffington Post of Gryphn’s setup at the DNC)

Some were invited to attend one while others, like Gryphn, were invited to attend both. There is an increasing awareness of the role of startups in job creation by the political establishment, regardless of party affiliation. There is also a parallel recognition on the part of startup CEO’s that, regardless of who might be in power or which party controls government, entrepreneurs create wealth. Period. Ultimately we all want the same thing, and the collective call is to move forward. Appropriately the hashtag for the event was #whatisworking and Gryphn is, indeed, a fantastic example of what is working in America.

Presenting at the Conventions

Our CEO Navroop, in his usual charming style (and conscientiously chosen attire) attracted, not only potential investors and customers but also other entrepreneurs interested in partnerships.

Our presentation displayed previously exposed text messages that led to public embarrassment, loss of office, jobs, appointment, prosecution, and a whole host of other consequences. Some of these text messages were a bit salacious. Understatement. Some of these text messages could make a grown man blush, and, in many cases, they did. Still others contained mundane text on strategy, the exposure of which seemed equally mundane until the messages were put in context and suddenly political maneuvers, jobs and even lives were on the line (examples).

More importantly, we used these texts to demonstrate to celebrities, journalists, investors, political consultants, Congress Persons and their staff, as well as a host of others over 7 days, the value, importance and, in many cases, necessity of ArmorText.

A young woman, after reading through the stack of text messages that have been used to indict politicians and celebrities in a series of court cases, realized that her recent messaging conversations might be used similarly. “Can my text message history be read, even without a warrant?” she asked. Unfortunately in many cases, not even a subpoena is required, illustrating the necessity of ArmorText, not just in enterprise but also for everyone and everyday use in protecting their privacy.

Next up: Navroop Mitter declines to be on the Daily Show, talks to Scott Case about ArmorText for Microsoft and learns to dance the electric slide.

You Can’t Live Without This One App

Posted on 8 Aug 2012 in Android, Apple, Team 0 Comments

You can't live without this one App: Gryphn ArmorText secure messaging app

You can’t live without this one App:

Our previous post “10 Ways Smartphones make us Smarter and more Creative” listed, well, more than ten unique apps and data sets that our phones contain. A preliminary list of apps and services that our team here at Gryphn use daily (and needs desperately) nearly triples that number.

Some of our favorites include:

TuneIn Radio: Sometimes you just need to listen to Siberian Techno, or American Heartland Country, or a designated Drum and Base station. Sometimes you need to expand your musical tastes into something other than the above mentioned options.

iKaossilator: When you need to be a DJ. Alone in the office, when no one is watching, we break out this app and fill the room with flashing lights, pounding baselines and mix with sounds like “Mighty Forest Trees”. Seizure warning and “I think I can dance” warnings are included.

Google maps: Let’s be honest, we’d be lost without this app. Literally. This is what happens when you are car, bus and metro-setting around the D.C. metro area, meeting with investors, industries interested in pilot programs and picking up party materials to celebrate successes in the previously mentioned categories. Suddenly you’re at an investor meeting, talking about a pilot program and wearing a party hat and you have no idea what state you’re in. Which bring us to…

Calendar: Where am I supposed to be? When is that proposal due? Calendar app is the magic 8 ball for all of our questions, providing answers, clarity and the details necessary to continue being the awesome that is Gryphn. and last but not least;

Camera: “(I use) the front facing option. To look at the most beautiful face in the world.” - Carl Pierre, InTheCapital

Enough said.

What are your most-necessary smartphone apps? Where would you be without your contacts, Google Maps, Calendar? Take this quiz and tweet #cantlivewithout your most important Smartphone app, data set or smartphone activity to @gryphnco or like us on Facebook for a chance to win one of our AWESOME Gryphn t-shirts!  How awesome? Our last batch was gone in less than an hour and we have a backlog of e-mails from people we met on the street asking for one. Yeah, that awesome. You will also be featured in a Gryphn t-shirt photo shoot with our fantastic press backdrop and amazing team members*.

The Meaning of Independence: An Entrepreneur’s Perspective

An excerpt from TechCocktail’s Independence Day interview: The Meaning of Independence

The Meaning of Independence Gryphn ArmorText secure text messaging app

WHAT IS MOST LIBERATING ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Gryphn.co CEO and Co-founder Navroop Mitter

“As is the case with our liberty as a nation, the liberty an entrepreneur experiences comes at a cost. Entrepreneurs lack a boss that they defer to day to day, but they gain a board whose power over them is even greater. Entrepreneurs gain the freedom to deliver on the completeness of their vision, free from the confines of business maxims and corporate structures, but they lose the comfort of a paycheck that comes even when things don’t go right while corrections are being made. Real liberty always has, and always will come at a price.”

Gryphn Scotch Cake Party

Posted on 27 Jun 2012 in ArmorText, Event, News, Press, Team 0 Comments

scotch cake party Gryphn = secure text messaging app

Scotch Cake Party

“Grandmother insisted on cake,” chuckled Navroop, Co-Founder & CEO of Gryphn, “I tried to explain that alcohol is more commonly used in christening new office space but grandma insisted that I buy a cake for everyone’s first day.” Navroop’s grandmother was so certain she mailed him a check. “I thought, hell! what’s better than alcohol at a party? Alcohol and CAKE!”

The new office was also gifted several bottles of scotch from personal collections as well as Gryphn posters from a colleague’s printing company.

The newly christened office possessed a natural celebrity photo backdrop (courtesy of the French artist SKWAK) and plenty of celebrities to take photos of in front of it.

Fellow office-mates InTheCapital (who also wrote about the genius of Scotch and Cake) and Kerplinq brought in their friends and colleagues, loading the office with brains, beauty, press and “The Love Sack”, which was a favorite for lounging and candid photographs throughout the evening. The revelry began at 6:30pm with a Scotch tasting, neon lit rooms and pounding music. The spaciousness of the office was quickly swallowed in visitors with group escapes to the conference room to beat the party heat. The revelers transitioned to the Ris and Barcode after 9pm. One bar was not enough to hold them all.

ArmorText raved about on St. Patrick’s Day in Washington, DC!

St Patrick's Day ArmorText raved about encrypted text messaging

Video Updates:

You missed out if you didn’t party with us on St. Patrick’s Day!

The holiday came around just in time for the beta launch of ArmorText. We partnered with James Hoban’s Irish Restaurant & Bar in DC and Lynzi Elizabeth from local TV station DC50TV, a part of the CW brand, to host a St. Paddy’s Day block party. About 600 people showed up and got to check out what ArmorText was all about and give us their thoughts on how they would use the app on a daily basis.

To make sure we didn’t get pinched on St. Patrick’s Day the Gryphn team wore green in full force. Navroop decided to wear a bright green turban instead of his favorite pink one. Bobby showed up to the event wearing a green jacket. Aaron, Gryphn’s power lifter, was wearing his favorite green sweater. This fashionable display was a fitting follow-up to the previous day’s Gryphn team photo shoot with celebrity photographer Douglas Sonders. Surprisingly, our green ensembles weren’t even the night’s biggest clothing hit. The new Gryphn t-shirts were wildly popular among bar patrons, with the Gryphn team collecting a waiting list for the next batch.

Keep checking back. We will be adding new videos every few days.
